The EVO 4 Series
The EVO 4.3 is part of Wharfedale’s EVO 4 series and takes it’s influence from the brand’s flagship ELYSIAN speaker range. By deploying a similar cabinet design, AMT tweeter, and SLPP bass reflex system the EVO 4 series benefits from many high-end features at a much lower price point. As an alternative to the small and compact EVO 4.3 floorstanders, Wharfedale offers the EVO 4.4, a larger floorstanding speaker. Go a step further with your home cinema and add the EVO 4C centre speaker and the EVO 4.1 or 4.2 bookshelf speakers.
AMT Tweeter
The Wharfedale EVO 4.3 features an AMT (Air Motion Transformer) high-frequency transducer which helps it outperform other compact floorstanders in this price range. The purpose of an air motion transformer is to transform electrical energy into high-frequency sound waves. They differ from other types of tweeters by dispersing air through a pleated diaphragm in an accordion-like motion. The benefits of AMT tweeters include achieving lower frequencies than most others, more efficient air dispersion, and naturally low distortion.
Midrange and Bass
As well as the AMT tweeter, the EVO 4.3 floorstanding speakers have a two-inch soft dome midrange driver and two five-inch Kevlar cone bass drivers on each unit. The midrange driver has been designed with a damped rear chamber and high flex magnet for quick response to musical dynamism. Where bass is concerned, the dual Kevlar drivers are equipped with low-distortion motors—in keeping with the ELYSIAN models. Furthermore, Wharfedale’s most-advanced slot port, the SLPP (Slot Loaded Profiled Port), has been taken over from the ELYSIAN range to deliver the same powerful lows.
Computer-modelled Crossover
To seamlessly blend the high, mid, and low ends from across the AMT tweeter, midrange, and bass drivers, the EVO 4.3 utilises computer-modelled crossover technology. Throughout the development of these speakers, hundreds of listening hours were put into finely tuning the crossover blend and ensuring the right listening experience. In addition to computer-aided crossover, the EVO 4.3 features a profiled phase plug, fixed in place, for smoother sound projection and clean interaction between frequency levels.
Material Selection and Design
Wharfedale’s choice of Kevlar cones for the bass drivers ensures that the bass is naturally self-dampened and dispersed, restricting excess vibrations which would inhibit sound purity. The EVO 4.3 floorstanding speakers are available in a choice of finishes including this, white oak, as well as walnut and black wood. Across all finishes, black grilles are optional to cover your drivers. The smoothly curved sides of the EVO 4.3 speakers make them comfortable to handle and position within the home. Spiked feet are supplied for secure placement on carpets.
