Hi-Fi Choice Recommended – 5 Stars
“The AE520 is not one of those weedy, anaemic-sounding floorstanders that have you wondering why you didn’t buy the standmount version at half the price. Instead, you get a large, muscular and full-range sound that has weight, grunt and go.”
Stereonet – Best Floorstanding Speakers, 2020
“The new AE520 has an interesting sound – and in a good way. That plethora of carbon fibre drivers gives a seamless tone and one that’s quite self-effacing. It’s deep, silky, dark, luxurious – all the words you’d hear used to describe a box of chocolates, I suppose!”
Utilising Carbon Fibre
The Acoustic Energy 500 range introduces carbon fibre drivers throughout its speakers. From tweeter to woofer, carbon fibre has been chosen for its responsive properties, offering superior dampening and realism. This results in higher transparency, bolstering details that might overwise be eclipsed in less capable speakers. A 35mm voice coil has also been integrated into the mid/bass drivers for low thermal compression, managing the speaker’s efficiency and developing bass capabilities, making the AE520 perfect for large home cinema or HiFi audio rooms.
Three-way Design
To ensure a smoother crossover and more overall harmony throughout the AE520, the tweeter has been placed between the two dedicated mid/bass drivers, within a cast aluminium wide dispersion technology (WDT) waveguide ensuring optimised diffusion into your listening room. Another significant addition is the introduction of three dedicated five-inch woofers. The greater crossover distribution improves not only bass, but results in superior vocal detail whilst reducing the need for supporting speakers in your system.
Slimline Cabinet
The AE520 is noticeably slim, but professionally handles the enormous sound expected of a flagship model. To promote accuracy, higher-quality crossover circuitry has been implemented for balanced power distribution throughout the speaker. The three woofers have also been isolated from the mid/bass / tweeter array by Acoustic Energy’s Resonance Suppression Composite (RSC) 18mm cabinet to prevent driver colouration. This features a 3mm bitumen layer packed between two outer layers of rigid MDF for extensive and effective dampening. These speakers also feature spike supports, making them fit for carpeted floors or hard floors with the addition of spike shoes.
